Matter Neutrino Resonance, Neutrino Flavor Transformation Above a Black Hole Accretion Disk

Annelise Malkus

Accretion disks from mergers of compact objects and from the collapse of stars are home to so many neutrinos that their effects must be considered in neutrino oscillations. We calculate the oscillation of neutrinos above the disk in these settings and find a new type of oscillation pattern, the matter neutrino resonance, that is not possible in previously studied settings. We use a single energy model to reproduce the resonance and make a prediction of the behavior.
