Analytic Boosted Boson Discrimination

Ian Moult
MIT

While observables which discriminate boosted topologies from massive QCD jets are of great importance to the jet substructure program, they have been studied almost exclusively with Monte Carlo simulations. In this talk, we discuss the analytic calculation of jet substructure observables for two prong discrimination, focusing both on the construction of optimal observables, as well as effective field theory frameworks for their calculation. We present numerical results for the discrimination of a boosted Z boson from massive QCD background jets using an observable $D_2$, and compare our results with Monte Carlo predictions.
