The Higgs Cross Section with a Jet Veto

Jon Walsh
UC Berkeley/LBNL

The discovery and continuing study of the Higgs puts a premium on theoretical predictions for its production cross section. An important channel is gg > H > WW, where the Higgs is not fully reconstructed and the cross section must be predicted with realistic experimental cuts. In this channel the dominant uncertainty is from the theoretical prediction, largely coming from the fact that cross sections with a pT veto on jets are not well studied. I will discuss the theoretical framework used to predict cross sections with a jet veto, which combines fixed order QCD and resummation with a careful study of effects of the jet algorithm and a robust estimation of theoretical uncertainties. These techniques can be applied in general, and I will show that they reduce the uncertainty for the WW case to a level competitive with other uncertainties in the analysis.
