Observing Majorana Neutrino Mass Origins

The discovery of neutrino masses via flavor oscillations is among the first signs of physics beyond the Standard Model. Their observed tiny mass values and large mixing angles hint at a generation mechanism at some new (possibly very high) energy scale. Here, I review the relationship between Majorana neutrino mass, lepton number violation, and new physics scales with an emphasis on potentially observable phenomenology. That is, I survey those models that may yield visible signatures at next generation experiments within the foreseeable future. These range from the low scale See-Saw mechanism to contrived examples characterized by dimension eleven non-renormalizable operators. I explain how/when comparing information from complimentary experimental probes can provide important insight into the physics behind neutrino mass generation.
