Precision Diboson Observables at the the LHC

I will discuss the use of certain ratios of diboson differential cross sections as high-precision observables at the LHC, motivated by the restoration of SU(2)xU(1) at high energy. Identifying symmetry properties of the amplitudes that survive even in hadronic cross sections, I will then discuss higher-order corrections and argue that these ratios are under comparable or better theoretical control compared to their statistical uncertainties, and that some higher order effects are more easily disentangled than in cross-sections themselves. Such observables can be of use in diagnosing the underlying origins of deviations from new physics, such as the recently observed diphoton excess near 750 GeV.
