Precision Jet Physics Using Effective Field Theory

Chris Lee
MIT

Hadronic jets are treasure troves of information about the fundamental interactions among elementary particles. Historically jets established fundamental properties of QCD and even now contribute to the most precise extractions of the strong coupling. Today, especially with the advent of the LHC, jets are important parts of signals (and backgrounds) for new particls beyond the Standard Model and also probe exotic phaes of dense, strongly-interacting matter such as the QGP. I will describe my research program to apply effective field theory (EFT) to achieve precision predictions for jet observables probing those phenomena.
