Nonequilibrium fluctuations of microscopic systems

Christopher Jarzinsky
T-13, LANL

Recent theoretical work has shown that it is possible to determine equilibrium properties of a small system, by observing the fluctuations of the system when it is driven away from equilibrium. I will discuss the theoretical background of these results, potential applications, and single-molecule manipulation experiments in which these predictions have beenconfirmed.
