Hybrid R-Matrix: Towards a smooth transition to statistical model calculations

The hybrid R-matrix approach aims at a combination of the pole term decomposition of the R-matrix and a background R-matrix which is based on a coupled-channel pseudo-potential. The pseudo-potential is chosen reproduce the observables obtained by the statistical model in the transition region in order to guarantee a smooth transition. The additional pole terms describe the resonance structure in the cross sections not covered by the pseudo-potential or statistical model. This method makes it possible to distinguish between mean-field background contributions and many-body resonance effects while maintaining a guaranteed smooth transition to the statistical model. In order to avoid interference effects between background and resonance contributions the development of a proper procedure is crucial. The talk will present the current status of the development which was applied to n-16O nuclear data between 0.2 and 6.0 MeV.
