Evaluation of neutron-induced reactions with the nuclear reaction code EMPIRE-2.19

Dimitri Rochman
Brookhaven National Laboratory

EMPIRE-2.19 belongs to a new generation of nuclear reaction codes, and is intended as a general theoretical tool to be used in basic research and nuclear data evaluation over a broad range of incident energies and projectiles. A short introduction on the new features of EMPIRE-2.19 for neutron-induced reactions will be presented such as multi-modal fission through multi-humped barriers, or fitting of optical potential parameters through experimental cross sections. This powerful code allows the extension of cross section evaluation to exotic nuclides where experimental data are not available and provides inputs for the calculations of covariance matrixes above the resonances region. Calculations will be presented for the neutron-induced reactions on gadolinium isotopes (152Gd to 160Gd) for the ENDF/B-VII library and for the neutron-induced fission cross section of americium isotopes (239Am to 244Am).
