Weak scale baryogenesis and its experimental tests

Weak scale baryogenesis describes the emergence of the baryon asymmetry in the early universe at the epoch of the electroweak phase transition (T ~ 100 GeV). Since the relevant weak scale dynamics will be explored in the coming years with laboratory experiments (collider and electric dipole moment searches), we will soon be able to test the viability of this scenario of matter generation. In this talk I describe one aspect of this exciting program: the systematic improvement in the calculation of the baryon asymmetry as a function of the parameters of the underlying physics model. This is achieved by using non-equilibrium quantum field theory to derive the appropriate set of transport equations for particle densities that fuel the generation of baryon number. I apply this method to the study of baryogenesis in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). I illustrate the impact of our new results on tests of MSSM baryogenesis involving input from both high energy physics and electric dipole moment searches.
