Neutron capture experiments with DANCE
The DANCE (Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments) array is designed
to measure neutron capture cross sections of unstable nuclei close to the
valley of stability. The detector consists of 159 BaF2 crystals and just got fully
operational and is ready to take data.
The experiments planned at DANCE will have direct impact on astrophysics, advanced
reactor technologies and stockpile steward ship. Furthermore, nuclear models can be
tested by analyzing the gamma ray cascades following the neutron capture.
The principle and present status of DANCE, possible experiments as well as the
impact to different fields will be discussed during the talk.
