Towards Model Independent and Perturbative Shell Model Effective Interactions
Microscopic calculations of the effective shell model
interaction in nuclei are typically model dependent and highly
non-perturbative. Through the use of renormalization group and effective
theory methods, I describe a new approach that eliminates much of
the model dependence arising from the particular model of the free space
nucleon-nucleon interaction used as input. Moreover, when combined
with the methods developed by Haxton and Luu, one obtains a perturbative
and model independent calculation of the effective shell model interaction in
A=3 nuclei.
