Nuclear Modification of Valence Distributions in a Quark Model Description of He-3
Despite many years of effort, a satisfactory
explanation of the nuclear EMC effect has proven
elusive. We examine the modification of valence quark
distributions in light nuclei using a quark model
which adequately reproduces nuclear sizes and binding
energies for He-3 and He-4 by balancing energy shifts due
color magnetism and quark delocalization. The effect on the
valence distributions of Pauli exchanges is calculated and
found to be small. Our result, which contains
no adjustable parameters, is in significant agreement with a
published parameterization of the nuclear valence
quark distributions in He-3.
