Conformal Bootstrap and Structural Phase Transitions

Andreas Stergiou
LANL

Since the 1970s experiments on structural phase transitions in crystals have reported critical exponents that have not been reproduced by theoretical methods. In this talk I will use the numerical conformal bootstrap, applied to theories with cubic global symmetry in d=3 spacetime dimensions, to argue for the existence of a previously unknown universality class capable of explaining the experimental results. (Based on arXiv:1801.07127 [hep-th] and arXiv:1810.10015 [hep-th].)
