Chiral three-nucleon interactions and p-shell nuclei

Three-nucleon forces are essential to understand the binding energies of nuclei. A systematic approach to nuclear interactions is chiral perturbation theory. I will briefly discuss the recently developed chiral nucleon-nucleon and corresponding three-nucleon interactions. Then I will turn to the application of these forces to bound states of p-shell nuclei.To obtain reliable solutions for these systems for the strongly non-local chiral interactions, the no-core shell model approach is the most practical one. I will describe the basic ideas and discuss, as an example, the 6Li and 7Li systems. They provide a rich laboratory to test the three-nucleon forces.
