Temporal Structure of the Supernova Neutrino Signal

Most of the neutrinos emitted during a core collapse supernova originate from the hot and dense newly born neutron star. Properties of matter from sub-nuclear to supra-nuclear densities and temperatures of the order of a few to several tens of MeV determine the rate of diffusion of neutrinos inside the neutron stars. This in turn will affect the time structure of the observable neutrino signal in terrestrial detectors such as Super K and SNO. I identify and discuss the thermodynamic and linear response properties of matter at extreme density that directly influence neutrino transport.
